HANSEN Architects participates in a variety of project types in locations throughout the United States. We understand that good design is a collaborative effort resulting from clients with vision and a talented, committed staff with the design integrity to respond to that vision. Hansen has also been selected by numerous out-of-town architects, developers, and design-build contractors to team with them on many of the large, high-profile projects within Savannah. Our size, longevity, commitment, depth of experience with local approval agencies, and success has earned respect and notoriety within the profession and building industry as an innovative partner.

It is difficult to encapsulate the work of Hansen Architects over the past 70 years. The firm has completed over 3,500 projects, of which over 300 have been restorations and new construction in historic districts, and all of these have contributed to our success.

J. Paul Hansen, FAIA, Principal

J. Paul Hansen, FAIA, Principal

Paul took the helm from his father in the late 60’s as Principal Architect. Under his leadership, the firm has earned numerous awards and gained notoriety in a variety of regional and national publications. He is a Bronze Medal and Distinctive Honor Award recipient from AIA Georgia and was elected to the College of Fellows of The American Institute of Architects for his notable contributions to the profession.

Eugene Maria, AIA, LEED AP, Senior Principal

Gene has been with the firm for more than twenty years and serves as Production Manager overseeing the preparation of Construction Documents and Specifications. His knowledge and attention to detail ensures the highest level of quality control throughout design. Gene has a Master of Architecture, is a member of the American Institute of Architects, and is a LEED Accredited Professional.

Patrick L. Phelps, AIA, LEED AP, Senior Principal

Patrick L. Phelps, AIA, LEED AP, Senior Principal

Patrick’s degrees in both Architecture and Historic Preservation are dual assets in his management and design roles. His design ability is complimented by a thorough understanding of building codes, agency requirements and methods of construction. Patrick is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is past president of the AIA Savannah Chapter. He is also a member of the U. S. Green Building Council’s Savannah Chapter and the National Trust for Historic Preservation – Forum Member, and is a LEED Accredited Professional.

Erik Puljung, Senior Associate

Erik Puljung, Senior Associate

Erik is heavily involved in Historic Preservation and Residential projects, working closely with approval agencies and architectural review boards. Erik creates unique, custom designed homes for clients, as well as being involved with the construction administration of each project. He stays involved throughout the process from design to completion. His experience with and understanding of construction along with professional degrees in both Architecture and Historic Preservation add to his overall resourcefulness.

Alexis AuBuchon, AIA, LEED AP, Associate

Alexis AuBuchon, AIA, LEED AP, Associate

Alexis joined Hansen Architects in 2014.   Alexis has ten years of experience working at a National Landmark Historic Site on a wide variety of projects, upholding the highest preservation standards.  Alexis has worked on projects of various scale, including the overall preservation effort of over twenty buildings and structures, with dates of construction ranging from 1850-1930, on a sixteen acre site.  As part of a non-profit organization, Alexis planned and managed preservation projects under strict budgetary and quality restraints.  She was an active participant in each phase of projects through construction, which gives her a unique perspective on troubleshooting design issues as they arise, and allows her to better plan for future problems. She is a skilled technical draftsman and has fully documented several buildings to HABS/HAER standards from field measured drawings. She is a graduate of SCAD where she received a Master of Architecture and a Minor in Historic Preservation.

Cassie Beckwith, LEED AP

Cassie Beckwith, LEED AP

Cassie has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Painting and a Master of Architecture. She has been on design teams ranging from residential to civic. Her artistic qualities and creativity, as well as her knowledge in Architecture will contribute to the overall Marketing strategies for Hansen Architects. She will be directing the firm’s marketing efforts to various groups including; private, institutional, and commercial businesses. She will also maintain communication with clients and consultants. Cassie is the Board Chair for Urban Hope, a local non profit serving inner city and at risk children. She was also recognized as one of the Rising Stars of Business by Savannah Magazine and Business in Savannah in 2015.

Amy D. Porch

Amy D. Porch

Amy has been with Hansen since 2006 and serves as the firm’s Interior Designer. Her knowledge and experience in space planning, custom design, fixtures, finishes and furnishings are assets for our clients and architectural team. Her organizational skills ensure budget control and ultimate coordination in purchasing and installations. Amy makes it a priority to remain current on new industry standards and materials, giving clients creative and custom options for their interiors. Amy is a graduate from the University of Kentucky where she earned high honors and a Bachelor of Arts, Interior Design.

Steven Grogan

Steven Grogan

Steven started with Hansen Architects in November of 2005. He has a Bachelor of Design and Master of Architecture from Clemson University. Steven has worked on several large scaled commercial projects from South University in Round Rock, Texas, to Law Offices in Savannah. He is a crucial part of our technology team and has an overall presence in each project, starting with design and into construction details.

Selena Hines

Selena Hines

Selena started with Hansen Architects in 2014 as the Administrative Coordinator. Selena has extensive experience in customer relations, administrative assistance, and overall office management. Her experience, knowledge and willingness to navigate office roles has garnered her additional roles in customer accounts.

Marvin Labis

Marvin Labis

Marvin’s diverse resume in Architecture, Construction, and Corporate America has provided him with an extensive understanding of commercial and residential design and construction.  He has become an integral part of Hansen’s construction documentation and administration team on large scale projects.  Marvin majored in Architecture and has a Bachelor of Science from The Georgia Institute of Technology.  He volunteers his time to coach youth lacrosse in the surrounding area.

Luis Burgos, Assoc. AIA

Luis Burgos, Assoc. AIA

Luis began his intern role at Hansen Architects in early 2014. He has assisted the Architects in projects ranging from tenant build outs to historic renovations. Luis is an Executive Board member for AIA Savannah, as well as a Board member for Savannah Young Architects Forum. He is a graduate of SCAD where he earned his Master of Architecture.

Zach Brown, Assoc. AIA

Zach Brown, Assoc. AIA

Zach interned with Hansen Architects while he completed his Master of Architecture from SCAD. He has been with Hansen since 2013 and is now a full-time team member. Zach has played a large role in creating conceptual design renderings for our residential and commercial clients, as well as working closely with lead designers to enhance the overall designs to meet our clients’ needs and goals. He has also assisted in construction documents and review board submitting on numerous projects.
