private residence: Historic Landmark District, Savannah

Built in 1886 as one of four adjoining townhomes by Cord Arnsdorf, this two-story Italianate home is located in Savannah's Historic Landmark District. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this historic residence features original hardwood floors and large windows in every room that fill the home with light.

Hansen Architects, in collaboration with Ethos Preservation, successfully applied for federal and state historic tax credits for the rehabilitation, ensuring all work followed the National Park Service's Secretary of Interior standards for historic preservation. The renovations included restoring the exterior facades, doors, windows, and wood trim, creating a new kitchen adjacent to the living area, adding two new baths and renovating the existing half bath, and using creative architectural millwork to maximize storage and maintain the home's historic integrity. The new outdoor courtyard is conveniently connected to the kitchen, enhancing the home's functionality and charm.
